Last night, at our AGM, we shared an exciting announcement. In the spring of 2021, our Food Security program, including our Jewish Food Bank and meal deliveries, will be moving to a new and permanent location at 53 E 3rdAvenue, Vancouver. This initiative has been in the making for the past several years and became a clear priority after the Food Security Task Force, an important collaboration between JFS and the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, published their recommendations in 2018.
This next step for JFS will mark a moment in our history that will alter the critical role we play in addressing food insecurity in the Lower Mainland - one that will be transformative.
We envision our new premises to be more than just a centre for food storage and distribution. It will be a multi-functional and welcoming space offering learning opportunities through our community garden and life-skills classes in our in-house kitchen, just as an example. We will also have our care managers onsite and available to meet with clients, one-on-one, for a range of social services conveniently located in one place. Eventually, when we can get together again, we look forward to hosting celebrations and cultural events where people can gather and build life-long connections.
We look forward to building a more food secure community in this next phase of our food program and one that is rooted in our Jewish values.
Thanks to our strong partnership with the Jewish Federation, our campaign efforts last spring, and with the help of some philanthropic individuals and sponsors, our costs for the first-year of the hub will be fully covered. Over the coming months we look forward to inviting you to help us personalize this community space so it can reflect the collective efforts that have made this dream possible.
