In the spirit of healing and strength, JFS, with support from United Way BC, introduces “The Living Room” support groups. This initiative serves the Jewish community, helping members to openly discuss and heal from the impacts of antisemitism.
In these free sessions, guided by experienced counsellors, participants share stories, develop vital coping skills, and build lasting bonds, creating a network of support that diminishes fear and combats antisemitism together.
This circle is open to everyone. This will be a facilitated circle with a start and end time and light refreshments.
Free. Pre-registration is required. RSVP online.

The Living Room @ the October 7th Community Memorial

The Rabbinical Association of Vancouver and Jewish Federation invite you to come together as a community for a Memorial service in honour of the victims of October 7th. We come together in pain for all the losses and in hope for healing and the return of the remaining hostages.
Throughout and after the ceremony, there will be a Living Room circle where people can rest and engage with registered counsellors. We aim to have Hebrew, Russian, and Ukrainian facilitators at this event. This will be a more open circle with participants joining or breaking off into smaller groups as needed.
Free. Registration is required to attend the Community Memorial Service. RSVP online.

The Alana James Memorial Culinary Scholarship 2024 Application Deadline

2024 Application Deadline – Tuesday, October 1, 2024 11:59PM PST
The Alana James Memorial Culinary Scholarship has been generously provided by the family and friends of Mark and Alana z’l James through Jewish Family Services Vancouver (JFS) for individuals who demonstrate financial need, academic skills, and commitment to the culinary arts. Scholarships will be awarded on a case by case method based on number and eligibility of applicants, and program costs. It is anticipated that up to $14,000 will be distributed annually.
The application period for the 2024 scholarship will commence on August 1, 2024 – October 1, 2024. All successful scholarship recipient will receive notification no later than December 15, 2024.

Thriving Seniors: Jewish Burial Rituals: From Death to Burial with Cathy Bregman
ExpiredWhen a member of the Jewish community dies, the body of the deceased is cared for by a sacred society know as the “Chevra Kadisha“. This small, dedicated group of Jewish men and women is tasked with performing the “Tahara“, which includes the cleansing, washing and dressing of the body in preparation for burial.
Join us to learn how these ancient, end-of-life rituals help to put the soul at rest and create a sense of peace after death.
